Overview: PokerRoom
is one of the oldest online poker rooms, yet is
also one of the most innovative. Offering
no-download play, any computer is capable of
running their software. They are even currently
experimenting with a mobile version that would let
you play poker on your mobile phone or PDA.
Consistently one of the largest rooms, PokerRoom
is a great place to play for players at any skill
level.
Games: PokerRoom offers Hold’em, Omaha,
Omaha H/L, Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud
H/L. The ring game limits range from $.25/$.50 to
$50/$100 in limit play, and $.25/$.50 to $5/$10
for no limit play. There are plenty of tournaments
at various levels, including freerolls, and single
table tournaments can be found ranging from $5+$1
to $100+$8. Short-handed tables are very popular
at PokerRoom, so players who prefer 5 and 6 person
tables will be well satisfied. PokerRoom also
offers an area for Chinese Poker, and the rules
for how to play. For the more adventurous,
PokerRoom lets you convert your poker money into
casino chips to play in their casino.
Software: As mentioned, PokerRoom offers a
no-download Java version of their software that
allows players to access the tables from any
computer. There is also a downloadable version of
the software for Windows that is a little nicer to
play with, but the Java version has everything
you’d need to play. With their announcement about
mobile phone and PDA support, you can expect to
see this aspect take off like a rocket! The
software allows you to easily take notes on other
players, and you can get table statistics to help
identify what type of game you’re getting into
before actually sitting down at the table. The
software also allows you to set up your own
private tables, if you so desire.
Players: The players at PokerRoom are about
average for the online poker world. You’ll find
plenty of weak players to take advantage of and
there will be occasional sharks to avoid.
Thankfully the software helps you to locate the
more lucrative tables by making available stats
like flop percentage and average pot size. With so
many players typically online at any given time,
it’s not hard to find a table suited to your
playing style.
Bonuses: Reload bonuses at PokerRoom are
cleared by earning player points. You need a total
of seven player points per dollar to unlock a
bonus, so for a $20 bonus you’ll need 140 points.
Points are earned by being in raked hands, where
hands raked for $1 or more give you a full point
and hands raked from $.50 - $.99 give you a half
point. You can check how many points you still
need to receive a bonus from within the software.
Banking Options: PokerRoom accepts deposits
using Visa, MasterCard, NETeller, FirePay, 900Pay,
PrePaid ATM and Moneybookers. Cashouts may be down
through NETeller, FirePay, PrePaid ATM, courier
check or check.
